The Ukrainian Military Intelligence Agency (GUR) today rejected allegations of interference in the mass protests in Slovakia against the government of Prime Minister Robert Fico, DPA reported, referring to a post by the agency on "Telegram". In it, the allegations of the Slovak authorities are called untrue. GUR said that it is "hostile propaganda", writes BTA.
Slovak Prime Minister Fico said yesterday that he has evidence of networks linked to Ukraine that are trying to destabilize Slovakia and overthrow his government. He accused the organizers of the latest series of mass protests against the government in Bratislava of being closely connected not only to the Slovak opposition, but also to the so-called Georgian Legion - a volunteer association of Georgians fighting on the side of Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
According to the Ukrainian military intelligence agency, there is no unit called the "Georgian National Legion" within its structures. However, the GUR admits that it had contacts in the past with the Georgian Mamuka Mamulashvili, suspected by the Slovak authorities of being behind the protests.
Mamulashvili rejected the accusations as slandering the legion he commands.
The GUR said that Russia is trying to sow discord between the countries of the free world, discredit European politicians and even organize a political assassination in Europe.
Left-wing nationalist Fico has been criticized in Ukraine for maintaining ties with Russia. The Slovak leader held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last December, breaking with EU policy, following the example of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who met with Putin in July.
