The Israeli armed forces said they had killed Mohammed Abu Saheil, the military head of the armed group "Palestinian Islamic Jihad" for the Gaza Strip, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
The group confirmed the death of its leader. According to the Israeli army, he was killed in an attack on a former school in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
His son, his daughter, as well as three other people were also killed in the attack.
Abu Saheil assumed his post in May this year after his predecessor was also killed by the Israeli armed forces.
"The Palestinian Islamic Jihad" is considered one of the most radical extremist groups in the Middle East. Its fighters fire rockets from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. However, the organization is considered less influential than "Hamas", DPA recalls.
