Britain will today seek the support of other members of the UN Security Council for its call on warring parties in Sudan to end hostilities and allow the population access to humanitarian aid, said the British Foreign Office, quoted by Reuters.
While London holds the rotating presidency of the Council, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy will lead the vote on a draft resolution proposed by Britain and Sierra Leone calling for the protection of civilians.
Lamy will declare that “Britain will never allow Sudan to be forgotten” and announce a doubling of British aid to £226m, the ministry said in a statement.
The battle for supremacy between the Sudanese government army and the paramilitary Rapid Response Force erupted in April last year, killing thousands of people and sparking the world's biggest refugee crisis.
The ministry also said Lamy would criticize Israel for imposing restrictions on humanitarian access to Gaza and call for an immediate end to hostilities and the release of the hostages.
Touching on the Ukrainian issue, he will state that Britain “will continue to stand by Ukraine until reality reaches Moscow”.
