Supporters of the Georgian opposition who do not agree with the result of the parliamentary elections in the country, headed towards the parliament and filled the square in front of it, clashing with the police.

The crowd marched towards the parliament waving the flags of Georgia, the EU, NATO, Ukraine and the USA. A convoy of cars was moving among the people. Policemen blocked the way of the cars in the middle of the road. A scuffle broke out between them and the protesters, and the police were pushed back.

Earlier, the opposition announced a march through the center of Tbilisi to the parliament and a rally in front of the building.

Protesters are expected not to leave the square, but to remain outside the parliament until Monday, when the first meeting of MPs after the election is scheduled.

On November 16, the Central Election Commission of Georgia published the final protocol of the parliamentary elections held on October 26, according to which the ruling party “Georgian Dream” won 53.93% of the vote and received 89 mandates out of 150 in the parliament. Four opposition parties also entered the parliament, but did not recognize the election results.

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, called for protests against the election results.
