Ukraine attacks Astrakhan region with drones, several Russian airports closed - 1

A Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire in Russia's Astrakhan region and caused the cancellation of flights from several airports in Russia, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing Russian authorities.

“Ukrainian armed forces tried to attack objects located in the region with a drone, including fuel warehouses and energy facilities“, Astrakhan region governor Igor Babushkin wrote on the messaging app. “The crash of a drone caused a fire. There were no injuries“, the message added.

Babushkin did not specify where the fire broke out.

According to the Russian news channel on “Telegram“ – „Baza“, which is close to the Russian security services, Ukraine attacked a gas processing plant near Astrakhan.

The Russian air transport agency „Rosaviatsia“ meanwhile said it was suspending flights from the airports in Astrakhan and Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Saratov and Ulyanovsk to ensure their safety.

Earlier yesterday „Rosaviatsia“ also temporarily suspended flights from „Volgograd“ airport in southern Russia, but they were later resumed.

There has been no official announcement of an attack on Volgograd, but „Baza“ reported that a large coordinated drone attack was directed against an oil refinery in the area.
