The UK government will work with EU countries to introduce new energy sanctions against Russia. This is stated in a statement by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, released before his participation in today's informal summit of EU heads of state and government in Brussels.

„I am here to work with our European partners to maintain sanctions pressure on the Russian economy to stop Putin's war machine. Because that, together with our military assistance, will bring peace closer“, said the head of the British government.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 The UK has added more than 1,900 individuals and entities to the anti-Russian blacklist, including more than 100 ships transporting Russian energy resources.

The Downing Street office said that Starmer plans to discuss in Brussels strengthening relations between the UK and the EU in the field of security and defense. In particular, London is interested in increasing the level of cooperation in the fight against illegal migrants.
