Russia is capable of repelling an attack with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles if they are transferred to Ukraine. This opinion was expressed to TASS by Konstantin Sivkov, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences for Information Policy.

Earlier, “Washington Post“ columnist David Ignatius reported that US President Donald Trump is considering sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

“In principle, Russia can destroy Tomahawk missiles. Because the Tomahawk missile is as clear a target as Storm Shadow and SCALP. The only difference is that while Storm Shadow and SCALP have a combat range of 500 km, with an effective range of 350 km, Tomahawk has a combat range of up to 1,500 km with an effective range of 1,200 km“, Sivkov said.

However, he noted that if Kiev receives Tomahawk, Russia will face the task of creating a low-altitude radar field over the entire European part of the country. According to him, this can be achieved by organizing patrols by radar surveillance aircraft.

In addition, he pointed to the need to strengthen air defense deep inside Russia in case of a potential threat from the use of long-range missiles. However, the expert stressed that for this the country needs a large amount of additional resources, in particular steel and electronics.

“Therefore, the course that the government of the Russian Federation is following today, the course of nationalizing strategically important resources, is absolutely correct“, added Sivkov.
