Russian specialists have developed a new magnetic material for detecting tularemia (also known as small plague) in the environment.

Tularemia is a natural focal infectious disease transmitted through insect bites, contact with infected animals, as well as through water and food. It is considered a particularly dangerous infection.

The Stavropol Research Institute for Combating Plague has developed a magnetic immunosorbent for detecting tularemia in the environment. The material contains small magnetic particles that bind to bacteria. When analyzing soil or water, the particles “attract“ the bacteria if they are present in the sample. This method allows the detection of small amounts of bacteria, unlike traditional methods.

Rapid and accurate detection of tularemia will help doctors diagnose the disease more quickly, prevent its spread, and protect the health of Russians.
