Prof. Vasil Karakostov: There is a fight over who is Ali Baba - 1

The Constitutional Court returns Stanimir Mihailov as the manager of the Health Fund (NHOK) .

"Without having any political biases and affiliations, I can share the opinion of many people that at the current stage and in recent years, people are getting the impression that there is a struggle over who Ali Baba will be. The health fund is something I observe more clearly than other activities. 8 billion will be spent. We are already halfway through the year - most likely 4 billion have been spent. There is no European control over them.

This was commented by Prof. Vasil Karakostov from the Neurosurgery Clinic at UMBAL "St. Ivan Rilski" in the show "The Day ON AIR".

The people working in the system have witnessed the uncontrolled spending of this money in health care facilities, he emphasized and gave an example.

"A few days ago, a woman over 55 years of age was admitted to a well-known chain of hospitals in a large city in the country after she fell and developed back pain. Reading the epicrisis, I see that it was treated with two clinical pathways. One of which is epilepsy and epileptic seizure. The second is peripheral nerve disease. We now have access to our health records. It will be written that she has epilepsy. If she decides to get a driver's license, these false data lead to many consequences. This is one of thousands of cases," Prof. Karakostov told Bulgaria ON AIR.

"There is no legality. There are some laws written that are simply written. Misuse of such funds is punished financially, plus a ban on the activity. If this small private chain hospital were to be banned from all activities, would anyone at the hospital dare not control what happens to her? This is not done on purpose," the neurosurgeon believes.

Prof. Karakostov reminded that in every stage of our life we pay certain insurances, which currently provide the minimum package of activities and all other extras must be additionally paid for.

"It strikes me that in the last 8 years we have been discussing why we do not have a national oncology registry. I would suggest to one of the next ministers to say: "I will introduce something specific in my mandate - a national oncology registry". This can be done very easily - within two to three months. In the country, overall health care is not at a particularly high level in terms of quality," Prof. Karakostov believes.

In his words, pharmacists and the Ministry of Health should not deal with vending machines.
