„Save Sofia“ presented a clock counting down the minutes until the expiration of the cleanliness contracts in Sofia. The site is available at bokluk.spasisofia.org, showing when each of the capital's districts will be left without cleaning if the garbage crisis is not resolved before then.
„Sofian residents need to know how much time is left until the expiration of the cleanliness contracts. That is why we „opened the data” on the deadlines“, said Gergin Borisov - municipal councilor and member of the digital transformation committee. He emphasized that the goal of the project is to draw public attention to the topic of the future of city cleaning and the need for timely action by the municipality.
„Save Sofia“ recalls that a year ago they indicated the cleaning order as one of the five main markers by which they will evaluate whether to remain part of the Sofia government. The party has repeatedly expressed concern that the procedure was launched too late, which could create a risk of new extensions of current contracts and postponement of real change in the waste management system.
According to „Save Sofia“, increasing the municipal cleaning capacity will not only reduce dependence on external contractors, but will also give the administration an advantage in negotiations with companies. In early October, a report by „Save Sofia“ was adopted, which provided 9 million leva for the purchase of equipment – new garbage and snow removal trucks – for the needs of the municipal enterprise “Sofekostroy“.
“We again call on the mayor to submit for consideration by the Municipal Council a report on the structure of the Garbage Plant, which is under his direct control“, said Boris Bonev - chairman of the party.
