President Ilyana Yotova's decision to start the procedure for selecting a caretaker prime minister is expected. The date on which we will elect the 52nd National Assembly also depends on the signing of a decree for appointing a temporary government.

Some of the parties proposed that the vote be held at the end of March. However, it is more likely that the elections will be held in April - after the Easter holidays. The date of the vote depends on how long the procedure will take.

The election of a caretaker prime minister is one of the challenges facing President Iliana Yotova, who took office on Friday after the Constitutional Court prematurely terminated Rumen Radev's powers as head of state.

Due to his resignation and dismissal from office, which took several days, the procedure for selecting a caretaker prime minister did not begin last week. When it will happen depends on the decision of Yotova, who will lead the talks.

Under the new rules in the Constitution, she can choose a candidate for caretaker prime minister from a list of ten names of public office holders. Among them are the speaker of parliament, the governor of the Bulgarian National Bank or some of the deputy governors of the BNB, the ombudsman or his deputy, the chairman of the Court of Auditors or his deputy. Some of the potential candidates have already publicly refused.

The person nominated by Yotova for caretaker prime minister must present a draft cabinet and, after consultations with the parliamentary parties, she must sign a decree appointing a caretaker government. This will also determine when the elections for a new parliament will be held. If the procedure takes longer, the vote will be held after Easter
