Benchev: Yesterday the fuel market calmed down and the price fell

The price of oil will remain high. And what will happen - depends on when the conflict in the Middle East ends

The price of oil will remain high. And what will happen - depends on when the conflict in the Middle East ends. This was stated to BTV by the Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Oil and Gas Association, Svetoslav Benchev.

"The most important thing is how long the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed. When there is clarity about what will happen to this channel, then there will be clarity about what the crude oil rate will be."

Jet fuel has risen by 200%, he added.

"There is not much the state can do, except possibly reduce taxes - VAT."

In Greece, fuel is 1.89 euro cents, Benchev revealed.

He added that yesterday the market calmed down and the price fell, after statements by G-7 representatives that barrels of fuel could be released and Trump's position that the war with Iran will soon end.

He added that our independent supply contract with Azerbaijan is for relatively small quantities. With regard to oil, new regulation will also be introduced at the EU level – in a year we will start paying for carbon dioxide emissions. This will lead to an increase of 35-40 eurocents per liter of fuel, he predicts.
