Traykov: Turkey is ready to negotiate to optimize the contract with Botas

Turkey has its interests, and we also have other mutual projects, said the acting Minister of Energy

We have always had numerous initiatives with Turkey in the energy field - both in the field of electricity and gas. It is clear that now the biggest topic is the contract with Botas. This was said to Bulgarian journalists on the sidelines of the second nuclear energy summit in Paris by acting Minister of Energy Traycho Traykov.

We talked with my colleague, I invited him to come to Sofia and he accepted. In the meantime, we will prepare a detailed position of ours on where we see opportunities to optimize this contract. Because the idea in itself is good - for Bulgaria to take advantage of the large capacity for importing liquefied natural gas through Turkish terminals. We want to preserve the rational philosophy of this agreement, but we need to optimize the parameters. We agreed to talk about this in Sofia, said Traykov.

In response to a question about whether he sees readiness on the Turkish side to change the terms of the contract, he pointed out: "We see both understanding and readiness, but specific negotiations are ahead, since we are talking about very specific parameters. Turkey has its interests, and we also have other mutual projects – we are currently discussing green corridors through Turkey and Bulgaria to Romania for the transmission of energy produced from renewable energy sources".

But the main topic is the gas contract. We are working step by step. In practice, we are already ready with a position that considers specific parameters that we want to discuss, said Traycho Traykov.
