Yankulov: Why didn't the prosecutor's office take action against Teodora Georgieva if there was evidence of corruption?

It is inexplicable how the Bulgarian prosecutor's office sends the European Prosecutor's Office a report alleging that a crime has been committed - taking a bribe, and this has been left without any consequences, and only now is it being made public. This was said by the acting Minister of Justice Andrey Yankulov in "Hello, Bulgaria" on Nova TV, quoted by novini.bg.

According to him, the prosecution is further discredited with the response in which it admits that there is convincing evidence of corruption by Teodora Georgieva.
"One possibility is that they believe that this is convincing evidence of corruption. In this situation, it cannot be explained why follow-up actions are not being taken. The other option is that they believe that the evidence is not convincing. If they considered that the evidence is not convincing, why did they send it to the European Public Prosecutor's Office. There is no explanation. But I cannot say which hypothesis is correct. I have no way of knowing whether this evidence is credible and convincing. What is clear is that pre-trial proceedings cannot be conducted in this way," Minister Yankulov also pointed out.

In the investigation into the "Eight Dwarfs" case There were similar testimonies about bribes for magistrates by Pepi Euroto, but it is not clear whose they are, the Minister of Justice explained. He added: "A year ago, the prosecution stated that it would check the leaked recordings of the case. In yesterday's report, there is no information about whether the video technical expertise that was being talked about was appointed".

According to him, Teodora Georgieva does not deny meeting with Pepi Euroto, but claims that the recording was cut. "We can make a reasonable assumption that these material carriers ended up in the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. From there, we do not know what happened to them", he added.
Minister Yankulov also noted that he would request information about whether Emilia Rusinova, the city prosecutor, traveled in Pepi Euroto's car. "The information can serve to clarify the potential connections of Pepi Euroto with magistrates. I have the authority to seek disciplinary responsibility, if such is proven. Influences in the judiciary operate on the basis of dependencies, career growth or material benefits", he further explained.

Regarding today's meeting of the Prosecutor's College, at which it will be decided whether to replace Borislav Sarafov as acting prosecutor general, Yankulov said: "I do not undertake to make predictions".
