Driver hits cyclist who entered the oncoming lane

The driver's alcohol and drug tests are negative

A cyclist died in an accident on road II-23, between the town of Isperih and the village of Malak Porovets, the police announced.

The accident was reported to 112 at around 7 p.m. on March 12. On a straight stretch of road, a car driven by a 49-year-old man hit a 64-year-old cyclist from Malak Porovets who had suddenly entered the oncoming lane.

The teams of the Central Emergency Service and the Isperih Regional Police Department that arrived on the scene determined the death of the elderly man. The driver's alcohol and drug tests are negative. He was taken to hospital with fragments of the car's panoramic window, which was broken during the impact, hitting his eyes.

The body of the deceased was transported for an autopsy to the Targovishte Hospital. The case is under investigation.
