“Consumers should not have a single doubt about the objectivity of their electricity bills. We are obliged to guarantee that no customer will pay a penny more than what they used and we are actively working in this direction. It is the specialized inspections that are currently being carried out by independent laboratories commissioned by the KEWR that will provide this clarity and for us this is the right way to restore the fragile trust of consumers in the system.“ This was stated by the Minister of Energy Traycho Traykov during the public meeting on the topic “Measures for effective protection of electricity consumers“, organized by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria Velislava Delcheva. The discussion brought together representatives of institutions, regulators, electricity distribution companies and other interested parties.

According to Minister Traykov, each specific case must be analyzed to the end in order to reach a complete, unambiguous and objective solution. “We will achieve this if all the institutions involved work together, transparently, in front of the people. Thus, the results obtained during the individual inspections will be able to put together the puzzle and give a complete and clear picture of each individual case“, the Minister of Energy emphasized. According to him, the key issue in this regard is the issue of responsibility. “Everyone must be extremely responsible precisely in the place where they are placed and where they make the important decisions for Bulgaria and for Bulgarian consumers“. An example in the opposite direction, according to Minister Traykov, is yesterday's decision of the National Assembly, in which the deputies lightly crossed out the possibility for Bulgaria to receive hundreds of millions of euros under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, which could be directly used for investments. “Ultimately, with pleasant-sounding motives, we deprived ourselves of funds for the modernization of the Bulgarian energy sector, which could have ensured more efficiency and ultimately - more affordable prices for consumers“, concluded the Energy Minister.
