Nobody has asked the Bulgarians if they want us to join NATO. I believe that there is no more democratic way than the referendum for people to say whether they want Bulgaria to continue its membership. This is the most democratic decision. Before the military alliance, we were not with slings and bows, so if we leave it, we will not be defenseless. The reason why Russia does not attack us is hardly because we are members of NATO. She believes that civilian and military intelligence should not be merged because of their vast differences in operations and personnel.
