Rumen Radev and "Vazrazhdane" want people to be asked - they are not saying "the euro is bad", but "do a poll". Isn't that the most democratic way to make decisions? This was commented on "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov" on BNT by MEP from "Europe of Sovereign Nations" Petar Volgin.
"The issue is not about the euro, the issue is about democracy. Today they are canceling the referendum, tomorrow they will cancel the elections, didn't that happen in Romania? We will get there if we continue to ignore the people's demands," Volgin said.
The issues related to the eurozone in no way contradict the Constitution, Volgin said.
"It would be a contradiction if we had asked - do you want to become a member of the eurozone. However, it does not say when anywhere there - that's why we ask - do you want it now, in 10 or 20 years?"
According to him, those who have failed the referendums are trampling on the legality and are doing it out of fear because they know what the result will be.
"It is gratifying that President Radev this time sided with the majority of citizens. It is good when a person who has hesitated for a long time finally makes the right decision. I do not view this as a battle or rivalry. People are not a commodity - the goal is to protect democracy," Volgin said.
Natalia Kiselova has done a dirty job by rejecting the referendum, believes Petar Volgin.
"I respected her as a specialist and as a person who should understand the law, but unfortunately she became the face of an illegal case," he said.
Volgin thanked the people who gathered at last night's forum in defense of the Bulgarian lev at the National Palace of Culture: "This gives me hope that they do not agree to treat them like a herd".
