This and last year, the lowest number of victims of road accidents has been recorded since these statistics have been kept since 2005. This was announced at a briefing at the Council of Ministers by the Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MI), Miroslav Rashkov.
He stressed that one of the priority activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is the fight against road injuries and the limitation of victims. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is taking a complex of measures to limit the number of victims, Rashkov announced. He said that in addition to the employees of the "Traffic Police", forces of the "Criminal Police", "Security Police", as well as forces of the gendarmerie and "Border Police" will now be included, who will work on establishing violations, on sanctioning drivers who commit violations on the roads, drive aggressively and violate the laws. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will be uncompromising in the fight against road violators, said Rashkov.
The Director of the Main Directorate "National Police" Chief Commissioner Zahari Vaskov announced that on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Main Directorate "National Police" a national meeting will be held with all directors of regional directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the topic being road injuries and road safety. We will also identify additional measures that must be strictly implemented, said Vaskov.
He informed that last year there were the fewest deaths, the fewest injuries and the fewest serious traffic accidents. Since the beginning of the year, compared to the same period last year, there have been 245 fewer serious traffic accidents and 309 fewer injuries. The number of deaths so far is slightly higher this year, said Vaskov.
Regarding administrative-punitive activity, an increase in issued documents (acts and slips) is reported, as since the beginning of the year they are almost 228,000 more, and documents served are almost 46,000 more. Paid acts and slips are 58,406 more, Vaskov announced. According to him, in the fight against road injuries, in addition to the bodies of the "Traffic Police", other bodies of the Ministry of Interior, as well as other structures outside the Ministry of Interior, are involved.
Zahari Vaskov announced that next week a specialized police operation will be carried out with the participation of the Ministry of Interior, the "Road Infrastructure" Agency and the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", in which the subject of inspections will be trucks. If a violation of a truck with a foreign registration is found, an organization is promptly created for serving a penalty order, as well as an organization for paying it on the spot. Vaskov said that he will not yet specify where and on what date the police operation will take place.
