Young woman falls to death in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge VIDEO

She was hiking with friends near Horsetail Falls

A young woman has died after falling off a cliff while hiking in the state's Columbia River Gorge Oregon, officials said, the Associated Press reported, cited by BTA.

On Sunday, the woman was walking with friends near Horsetail Falls, about 50 km east of Portland. After separating from the group and exiting the trail, she fell about 50-60 feet, the local sheriff's office said in a statement.

The woman was in her 20s and from the Portland area, the statement said.

Around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, a 911 call reported someone was seen falling off a cliff near the trailhead. A few minutes later, a second caller also reported the incident and said that bystanders were performing artificial respiration on the victim.

Despite the efforts, the rescuers declared her dead on the spot.
