Nine ships docked with sunflower from Argentina, most likely under the agreement with “Mercosur“. In our country, part of the grain was processed and exported to Egypt. Herbicides and pesticides are produced in Europe that are banned for use in the EU. They are exported, for example, to Argentina and then imported as an ingredient in food products. The importers, for example, are not only in Bulgaria, but also in other countries. I wonder - will we accept them in Bulgaria, or will we act like France and Poland, which banned the import of any food containing banned pesticides into the European Union? This ban means that these foods will not enter Bulgaria and will not be imported. Will there be such a ban from the Bulgarian government? This was announced to Lili Marinkova in the studio “FACTS“ and the show “Conversation“ by Svetla Nikolova from the “Agrolink“ association.
“Now someone should be happy that part of the production is being exported partially outside Bulgaria in the form of produce. But who ordered this amount of sunflower? Which company ordered it? The agreements with “Mercosur“ are recent. Is the import under this agreement - I don't fully believe it. There may be a connection, but it needs to be established, and not just said: here, we process part and export. Who ordered it? Where is the rest of the sunflower? Let this information be presented transparently and publicly“, added the guest.
“These Bulgarian MEPs, who here declare that they are against GMOs and for the protection of local varieties, are not heard in the European Parliament. It is true that the political situation in our country is already different compared to those MPs who are elected by parties that are not in the government. However, the MEPs do not take into account what society wants. In the European Union, currently 80% of people do not want GMOs. Despite this, the European Commission and the European Parliament do not take into account the opinion of the people. This is official and is evident from various surveys that have surveyed opinion in all countries of the European Union. But despite this, the decision is made“, says Svetla Nikolova.
