The fire that broke out in the area of the fuel storage facilities of the Zaporizhzhia NPP after a Ukrainian attack has been extinguished, RIA Novosti reported, BTA reported.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported yesterday that its team at the plant heard gunfire near the site and saw black smoke rising from three locations in the vicinity.
The IAEA team, which is located at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, heard gunfire in the area. Black smoke was rising from three nearby locations, the UN nuclear watchdog said, Reuters reported.
The team was told that an unspecified number of shells had fallen about 400 meters from a diesel fuel storage facility located outside the plant itself.
"While there were no reports of casualties or damage to equipment, the incident once again highlighted the ongoing threats to nuclear safety and security," said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
The area around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which was occupied by Russia in March 2022 - shortly after the start of the war - is frequently reported to have been shelled, with both sides blaming each other.
