Serbia will sign a new contract for gas imports from Russia in October, the director of "Serbiagaz" Dusan Bayatovic told the Serbian public television RTS, BTA reports.
“We will conclude the talks this week, but the gas agreement will not be signed in September, but in October. Next month, we will extend the existing agreement with the same conditions that we had so far“, Bayatovic emphasized.
Bayatovic added that over 90 percent of the capacity of Serbian warehouses is filled with gas and that the reserves will be sufficient within three to five month.
In an interview with RTS today, the director of „Serbiagaz“ Dušan Bayatović announced that there will be no increase in the price of gas for the population, and if there is an increase, both for distributors and for the population, the difference will be paid by the company „Serbiagaz“.
Bayatović also said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has requested a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the US sanctions imposed on the Serbian oil company NIS and assessed the meeting as very important because these are "political sanctions".
NIS was placed on the US sanctions list in early January this year due to its relationship with the Russian "Gazprom Neft", which is under Western sanctions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions have been postponed six times so far.
„Gazprom“ has practically withdrew from the ownership of Serbia's oil company NIS after its shares were taken over by the Russian company “Intelligence“, the Serbian edition of Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported yesterday, citing data from the Belgrade Stock Exchange.
