Zaporozhye NPP plans to export electricity abroad if it resumes operation

Exactly three years ago, Putin signed a decree confirming its status as an object under Russian jurisdiction

The Zaporozhye NPP will technically be able to export part of its electricity outside Russia if the country's leadership decides to do so. The plant will be able to do so if it switches to production mode, ZAP Director Yuri Chernichuk told TASS.

“This is precisely bilateral or trilateral cooperation, since part of the electricity that our plant will subsequently generate can be exported outside the country. We will leave the commercial or political aspects to others, but technically the plant, while it is operating, will be able to generate part of the electricity for other countries“, Chernichuk said.

Earlier, the Director General of “Rosatom“ Alexey Likhachev announced that part of the electricity generated by the Zaporizhzhia NPP, if it is put into operation, could be used for international cooperation. This is being discussed with the American side and Russia is ready to consider the participation of Ukraine if “conditions arise“, Likhachev explained.

On September 2, during talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow was ready to consider cooperation with Washington and Kiev on issues related to the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

On October 5, 2022, the Russian President signed a decree confirming the status of the Zaporizhzhia NPP as an object under Russian jurisdiction. The right to operate the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant was granted to the Russian company JSC "Operating Organization of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant", established by the corporation "Rosenergoatom", a subsidiary of the state corporation "Rosatom".

The assets of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant are the property of the Russian Federation.
