The dates for the summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump have not yet been set, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, quoted by “Reuters“, reports News.bg.
Peskov specified that neither Putin nor Trump want to waste their time. “The dates have not yet been set, because careful preparation is needed beforehand - this takes time“, he pointed out.
When asked about Trump's comment that he did not want a “wasted meeting“, Peskov replied: “Nobody wants to waste their time - neither President Trump nor President Putin“. The Kremlin spokesman added that numerous rumors and disinformation have emerged around the meeting, most of which are false.
In addition, Peskov announced that the Russian president would not personally attend the G20 conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, scheduled for November. "Putin will not participate personally, but Russia will be represented at a high level. We will inform you in due time who the representative will be," he assured.
Earlier, the White House postponed the meeting between Trump and Putin, as Moscow rejected calls for an immediate ceasefire. A senior US official specified that there are currently no plans for a meeting in the near future. The US president commented that he did not want a "wasted meeting" with his Russian counterpart, after the initially planned meeting in Budapest fell through.
