Greece plans to start voluntary recruitment of women into its armed forces from 2026, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias announced, quoted by the online edition of the newspaper “Kathimerini“, BTA reports.

“We are starting the voluntary recruitment of women into the armed forces next year. "We will form a unit of 100 to 150 volunteers to strengthen the connection between women and our armed forces," Dendias said, noting that women currently make up about 17 percent of the Greek military. The minister added that the goal is to build the necessary infrastructure, as well as a culture and mindset that will allow women to serve alongside men in the military if necessary.
