Pellegrini: Slovakia should maintain friendly relations with all countries, including Iran

Slovak President Stresses Importance of Diplomacy and Diverse Partnerships During Meeting on the Sidelines of UNESCO Conference in Samarkand

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stressed the importance of maintaining diplomatic and friendly relations with all countries, including Iran, Iranian news agency IRNA reported, BTA reports.

He made his statement during a meeting with Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Hossein Simae-Saraf, held on the sidelines of the 43rd UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand. Pellegrini described his official visit to Iran in 2016 as a positive and memorable experience.

In the context of current international and geopolitical tensions, the Slovak head of state described Iran as a large, important and strategic country. He stressed that promoting diplomatic relations with all peoples is essential and that attention should not be focused solely on Western countries.

For his part, Minister Simae-Saraf presented the main themes of the conference, including deepening knowledge in emergencies, ethics in technology, and skills development.

He expressed confidence that the Islamic Republic of Iran has extensive experience and significant achievements that it can share within the framework of the specialized sessions.

The forty-third General Conference of UNESCO will be held from 30 October to 13 November 2025 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
