German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier continues his week-long tour of Africa today with an official visit to Angola, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

In the capital Luanda, he will be welcomed with military honors, after which he will hold talks with President João Lourenço and opposition leader Adalberto Junior.

Steinmeier is the first German head of state to visit Angola - a visit aimed at underlining the country's importance as a key political and economic partner for Germany.

Angola is the world's fourth-largest diamond producer and has rich deposits of critical raw materials on which German industry heavily depends. Crude oil accounts for about 90% of Angola's exports and is the main product that Germany imports from the African country.

The visit to Angola is the last stop on Steinmeier's African tour, which also included Egypt and Ghana.
