Orban flew to meet Trump at the White House, still hopes to meet him with Putin in Budapest

US president reports progress on Ukraine issue to Central Asian leaders

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that Russia and the United States only need to resolve one or two issues to coordinate their positions on the conflict in Ukraine and hold a meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest.

“One or two issues remain unresolved in the negotiations between the United States and Russia. If they are resolved, a peace summit could be held in Budapest within a few days, and from there, depending on the agreement of the parties, a ceasefire and peace in Ukraine could follow“, the prime minister said in a brief interview with Magyar Nemzet.

He spoke to Hungarian journalists on board the plane en route to Washington, where a meeting with Trump is scheduled for November 7. Before leaving, Orban noted that one of the main topics of the talks at the White House would be ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. He also expressed hope that the new Russian-American summit would still be held in Budapest.

US President Donald Trump believes that progress is being made towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

On November 6, at a meeting with the leaders of five Central Asian countries at the White House, the American leader expressed confidence that he had managed to end eight conflicts in recent months. “We want to add another one. It is possible“, added Trump, specifying that he was referring to the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict. “We haven't done it yet, but I think we have made a lot of progress“, the president noted.

“We just want this war to end. "We would like to see an end to this war," the American leader added, referring to the Ukrainian conflict.
