Tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to gather in the Bavarian capital for the Munich Security Conference next week, DPA reported, citing local authorities.
A total of about 120,000 participants in the organized protests have been registered so far, the Munich regional administration said.
The demonstrations linked to the annual meeting of world leaders and senior defense and intelligence officials have attracted smaller crowds in recent years.
As of yesterday, applications had been submitted in Munich for the registration of a total of 21 protest events, which will take place between Wednesday and Sunday next week. The largest demonstration is expected on Saturday, February 14, when opponents of the ruling regime in Iran will gather for a rally. Organizers said nearly 100,000 people had registered for the event.
Another demonstration against the Munich Security Conference itself will take place in the city center on the same day, with about 4,000 people expected to attend.
Critics have condemned the conference, which is held every February at the luxurious Munich hotel "Bayerischer Hof" and which discusses the most pressing issues in the field of global security, as a global gathering of militarists.
Other rallies are also planned with a total of about 3,000 registered participants, including anti-war protests and one calling for "free choice of vaccination".
This year's Munich Security Conference will take place from February 13 to 15 and will include a special panel dedicated to support for Ukraine. According to organizers, 65 world leaders have confirmed their participation. The guest list includes foreign and defense ministers from a number of countries, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
