Ukraine hopes that with the help of the United States it will be able to accelerate the negotiations to end the war with Russia.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga. In an interview with Reuters, the Ukrainian top diplomat expressed concerns that if the negotiation process continues to be delayed, Washington's attention will be diverted from the midterm elections for the US Congress scheduled for the fall.
"Only Trump can stop this war," said Sibiga. He expressed concern about the Russian-American negotiations and the promises of Russian emissaries for business deals with the Americans worth trillions of dollars. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister warned that if these negotiations are accompanied by concessions affecting Ukraine's sovereignty and security, Kiev will never agree to them.
The next round of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi this week produced no compromises, except for Moscow and Kiev agreeing to exchange a total of 300 prisoners of war. The issues of control over Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, future guarantees for Ukraine's security and reconstruction remain unresolved.
Ukraine has not yet recovered from yesterday's massive bombing of its energy facilities - the second in a week. In most areas of the country, electricity is being cut off as emergency repairs continue to be carried out on the thermal power plants and electrical substations damaged by the Russians. The strikes on the substations have forced a drastic reduction in the production of nuclear power plants.
The terror continues in cities near the front. Eight residents of Kherson in southern Ukraine were injured by multiple rocket launchers deployed across the Dnieper River. An elderly woman was killed in Kramatorsk in Donbas when a 250-kilogram guided bomb hit the town, injuring three other residents and damaging 11 residential buildings.
