Terrorists have attacked three villages in western Nigeria, killing 32 locals, Arise TV reported, citing police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun.
The tragedy occurred last night in the villages of Tugan Makeri, Konsoko and Pisa in Niger State. The exact number of victims has not yet been determined, as well as the number of hostages taken to an unknown location.
The television channel notes that the pattern of crimes is reminiscent of attacks by the extremist group Boko Haram.
On February 11, the Nigerian armed forces announced the start of an offensive against Boko Haram, a group responsible for numerous terrorist attacks, including kidnappings.
The group emerged in 2002 in Borno State in Nigeria with the aim of seizing power in Nigeria. Since 2009, the organization has been engaged in active terrorist activity. In 2015, the Nigerian armed forces inflicted a major defeat on Boko Haram and significantly reduced the territory under its control. The militants began to establish bases in countries bordering Nigeria, mainly in the Lake Chad region.
