US President Donald Trump's decision on additional 10% tariffs will take effect on February 24 and will last 150 days, the White House announced.
Earlier, Trump announced the imposition of an additional 10% global tariff against “all countries“, which will take effect “immediately“.
A day earlier, the US Supreme Court ruled that the tariffs imposed by Trump under the federal emergency law were illegal. The court found that the president had exceeded his authority by invoking the law to impose the tariffs.
The ruling affected a wide range of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. It revised the “reciprocal” tariffs applied to most countries, as well as tariffs on goods from China, Canada and Mexico imposed to combat the smuggling of fentanyl into the United States.
It also reversed the “secondary” tariffs against India that were imposed for its purchases of Russian oil.
CNN previously reported that the Republican, during a breakfast with the governor, called the court’s decision “a disgrace” and said he had a backup plan.
