French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot defined the talks between Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov as a "betrayal" of European solidarity, Reuters reports, quoted by BTA.

According to Barrot, expressed to the French radio "France Entre", such actions contradict the basic principles of unity in the European Union, which are necessary for its strength.

In a separate comment related to the temporary cessation of hostilities between the US and Iran, the French minister stated that the possible introduction of a fee for passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be "unacceptable" and incompatible with international law, reports Agence France-Presse.

Barro stressed that freedom of navigation in international waters is a common good that should not be restricted by fees or administrative barriers.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that the creation of a multinational structure to control traffic in the Strait of Hormuz through a system of fees is being discussed. In response, Barro said that such an idea is unacceptable and illegal, since international waters must remain free for navigation.
