US Vice President J.D. Vance said that the ceasefire between the US and Iran is being respected and added that President Donald Trump does not want just a "small agreement" but a "grand deal" with the Islamic Republic, DPA reported.

"Right now the ceasefire is being respected", Vance said while participating in an event organized by the conservative organization "Turning Point USA" (Turning Point USA) in Georgia.

Vance said that "tremendous progress" was made during the talks between the United States and Iran in Pakistan last week.

"But the reason the deal hasn't been done yet is because the president really wants an agreement where Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapon," Vance said. He stressed that Iran should not sponsor terrorist organizations and that Trump wants to conclude an agreement under which "the Iranian people will be able to develop, prosper and participate in the global economy."

According to CNN, Vance will likely lead the US delegation in a possible second round of talks with Iran.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump said in an interview with the "New York Times" that negotiations with the Islamic Republic could be renewed in the coming days.
