Iranian authorities consider the US blockade of the country's ports unacceptable as it subjects the entire Iranian population to “collective punishment“.
Tehran considers such actions a war crime, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said.
“The deliberate use of collective punishment against the entire Iranian population is tantamount to a war crime and a crime against humanity“, Baghaei wrote in X.
He also stressed that the blockade undermines ceasefire agreements reached between the US and Iran. Furthermore, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Washington's actions violate the provisions of the UN Charter guaranteeing freedom of navigation.
