Germany is developing concrete plans for a possible deployment of naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions in the region. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, quoted by DPA, BTA reports.

According to him, various scenarios are currently being considered, including possible partnerships and the way in which such an operation could be organized. Pistorius stressed that the process is at an early stage, but such planning is part of the ministry's duties.

He pointed out that a real deployment of forces would only be possible with a lasting ceasefire, a clear international legal framework and a mandate from the German parliament - the Bundestag. According to him, these conditions have not been met so far.

The minister emphasized Germany's role in NATO in the field of maritime mine clearance and stated that the possible mission would not be symbolic in nature, but would be aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation.

Pistorius described the situation in the region as unpredictable, noting that over 20 attacks on merchant ships have already been registered. He added that without the participation of the United States, ensuring security in the strait would be difficult and strategically risky.
