Over one million Italian families with low incomes will receive a one-off state aid of one hundred euros under a decree of the right-wing government of Italy, headed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, was promulgated today, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The money, which will be a Christmas bonus and will be paid from the new year 2025, is entitled to families with at least one dependent child and with only one income, which is below 28,000 euros per year.
DPA notes that the extraordinary compensation will cost the financially strapped Italian government around 100 million euros. According to the original plan, the bonus was to be paid in December, but in the end it was decided to start giving the money from January onwards.
Meloni's opponents see the aid in connection with the election campaign of her party "Italian Brothers" for the European Parliament. The Prime Minister heads the list.
Regardless of the results of the European elections, Meloni does not intend to be a member of the European Parliament, wanting to remain prime minister, DPA points out, adding that with debts totaling more than three million euros, Italy is one of the most indebted countries in Europe .
