Smoke billowed over the refugee camp in the West Bank

Israeli forces carried out attacks in the city of Jenin in the West Bank, an AFP correspondent reported, quoted by dariknews.bg, as the most -at least 10 Palestinians were killed in the fighting.

Smoke billowed over the refugee camp in the city in the afternoon, with explosions and gunfire heard from inside as Israeli soldiers in armored vehicles fired at masked youths in the city center, the correspondent said. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah said Israeli forces killed 10 people and wounded 25 during the fighting that began on Tuesday morning. An AFP correspondent on Tuesday saw four bodies in the morgue of the government hospital in Jenin.

The Israeli army said on Wednesday that troops had "exchanged fire with gunmen and killed a number of terrorists, including two terrorists who threw explosives". The official Palestinian news agency Wafa and the medical charity "Doctors Without Borders" reported that surgeon Usaid Jabareen of the government hospital was among those killed. A teacher and a student were also among the dead, Wafa reported, citing hospital director Wissam Bakr.

The Israeli army announced that it raided the house of Ahmed Barakat, who was suspected of attacking an Israeli civilian last year. Meir Tamari, 32, was killed in May 2023 at the entrance to a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, medics and the military said at the time. The streets near the camp's entrance were deserted Wednesday afternoon, drones buzzing overhead. On the outskirts of the city, a group of Israeli armored vehicles were parked near a roundabout while agricultural workers worked on a farm across the road.
