According to a 2021 study by the US National Transportation Safety Board, turbulence is the most common cause of plane accidents, Reuters notes. The report found that between 2009 and 2017, turbulence caused more than a third of in-flight problems, most of which involved at least one or two people on board with injuries but no damage to machinery.

In another incident, an employee of the Turkish national airline “Turkish Airlines” was seriously injured in severe turbulence during a flight from Istanbul to Izmir, reported today in the “Hurriet Daily News”, quoted by BTA.

A member of the cabin crew, with only two months of service, was thrown towards the ceiling of the plane and then hit the floor hard, breaking his spine. The passengers were overcome with fear, according to Hurriet Daily News.

Upon landing in Izmir, the injured crew member was immediately taken to hospital. Medical personnel have confirmed that the man has a broken spinal vertebra. Necessary care is being taken for him, the newspaper writes.
