"Modern American leaders suffer from the syndrome of “historical revisionism”, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, commenting on US President Joe Biden's statement about the "single victory of the United States in World War II".
„According to media reports, US President Joe Biden, in his National Memorial Day speech at Arlington Cemetery, said that during World War II, American soldiers liberated Europe and “literally saved the world” ;. The American leader did not mention the role of the USSR and other countries in the Victory over fascism...“, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes.
At the same time, diplomats emphasized that Biden, unlike his predecessor Donald Trump, was unable to pay tribute to all fighters against fascism. The Foreign Ministry recalled that only four years ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his then American counterpart Donald Trump issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Elba meeting.
In turn, the Russian ambassador in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, noted that the American authorities continue to cynically downplay and even deny the decisive role of the USSR in the victory over fascism.
“There is not a single country in the world that suffered more than us in the fight against Nazi Germany and its satellites, who fought against the Red Army on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War”, the diplomat recalled.
Antonov stated that the rhetoric of American politicians is “distorted to meet the needs of the day”. “We will fight this and will not allow history to be distorted. We will not allow the 27 million Soviet lives to be forgotten, assured the ambassador.
