„The Prespa Agreement and the name “North Macedonia”, erga omnes, for all, was the main condition for the accession of the RSM to NATO“.
This was stated by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in an interview with state television ERT, quoted by BGNES and BNR.
Misotakis explained that the name (referring to the old name of the RSM – Republic of Macedonia – ed.) "is also the reason why the country did not join NATO for so many years".
He added that together with the new Prime Minister of the RSM, Hristiyan Mitskoski, they will attend the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Alliance.
„I think it is incomprehensible that the RSM would come to its first appearance with the new leadership and question the Prespa agreement regarding the name,” said the Greek Prime Minister.
„Mitskoski could find himself in an awkward position at the NATO summit if he continues to say what he is saying,” Mitsotakis added.
„I do not believe that North Macedonia thinks that it can take steps towards Europe by opening a new, unnecessary front with Greece. What I am saying is obvious and I hope it will be understood with absolute clarity in Skopje. It is indeed an unnecessary dimension that complicates relations between the two countries. "It is not useful above all and above all for the citizens of North Macedonia themselves," Mitsotakis pointed out.
The leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristiyan Mitskoski, received a mandate to form a government from the President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova.
After receiving the mandate, the future prime minister announced that he would not repeat "Severna" like a parrot when he names his own country "Macedonia".
