Leading politicians in the US are horrified by what happened to Trump

The leader of the majority of the Democrats in the US Senate (the upper house of the US Parliament) - Chuck Schumer, said, that he is horrified by what happened at Donald Trump's rally in the state of Pennsylvania and feels relieved that Trump is safe, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

„Political violence has no place in our country”, Schumer said, quoted by the agency.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives – Rep. Mike Johnson, said he was praying for President Trump and all the rally participants. Johnson expressed his gratitude to the security guards who responded to the attack on the stage of the rally. “This appalling act of political violence during a peaceful election rally has no place in this country and must be unanimously and categorically condemned," Johnson said.

Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said “all Americans are thankful tonight that President Trump appears to be OK after the vile attack on a peaceful rally”.

„Violence has no place in our politics. We appreciate the quick work of the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies," McConnell said, as quoted by Reuters.

House of Representatives Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said his thoughts and prayers are with former President Trump. “I am grateful for the decisive response of law enforcement. America is a democracy. "Any political violence is unacceptable," Jeffries said.

Democratic representative and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said that “as someone whose family has been a victim of political violence”, she knows firsthand that it “has no place in our society”.

„Thank God former President Trump is safe,”, Pelosi said.

Former Republican President George W. Bush said he and his wife, Laura, were grateful that "Trump is OK after the cowardly attack on his life." He congratulated the Secret Service for its quick response.

Former Democratic President Barack Obama stated that “there is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy”. Obama expressed relief that Trump was not seriously injured and called for civility and respect in politics. "Michelle and I wish him a speedy recovery," Barack Obama said.
