A 100m section of the Kyolim Reservoir's dam wall has collapsed and four villages are threatened by rising water

Heavy rains last night caused a breach in the wall of a dam in the central part of the Chelyabinsk region in Russia, which forced authorities to evacuate several nearby villages, Reuters and TASS reported, citing BTA, citing local authorities.

Regional authorities of the Chelyabinsk Region in the southern part of the Ural Mountains reported in the "Telegram" application that a 100-meter section of the dam wall of the Kiolim Reservoir has collapsed and four villages are threatened by the rising water. A total of about 200 people living in them are at risk.

Officials said more than 160 residents were evacuated as a precaution and no injuries were reported.

Rescue teams from the Russian Ministry of Emergencies and the Karabash Regional Center have been sent to the area, and reception centers have been established for the evacuated people.

"According to preliminary data, a village has been flooded. The population is informed and informed about the current situation. A decision has been made for the preventive evacuation of three settlements located along the Kyolim River," the office of the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian President in the Ural Federal District said in a statement.
