Philippines, Japan launch first joint exercises in South China Sea

The Philippine Navy and Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force today conducted their first joint military exercises in the South China Sea, the Philippine military said, as cited by Reuters and BTA.

"These activities are part of sustained efforts to strengthen regional and international cooperation with the goal of forming a free and open Indo-Pacific region," the Philippine Armed Forces said in a statement.
