Although German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently " reluctantly" accepted the American plan to deploy missiles with a medium range of up to 2,500 km in the country from 2026, many Germans are skeptical, even his party members, writes the European edition of Politico.

The leader of the Social Democratic Party (GSDP) in the Bundestag, Rolf Mützenich, did not like the idea of Moscow being held in the crosshairs by Berlin.

"Not every weapon makes Germany safer," he told Politico after Scholz called the deployment of the missiles "a very good decision" that would deter Russia and seek to create guarantees that there would be no war.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the missiles could eventually be equipped with nuclear weapons and threatened a response.

The objections of the members of parliament from the GSDP come despite the fact that the Bundestag does not actually have a say in the matter, as the deployment involves no public expenditure and will not be controlled by the German military.
