At least 10 police officers injured during pro-Palestinian protest demonstration in Berlin, the local authorities announced today, quoted by DPA and BTA.
During yesterday's demonstration in the central district "Kreuzberg" stones, eggs and plastic bottles were thrown at the policemen.
One of the participants was injured after being hit in the neck by a rock, and a counter-protester was also hit in the head and injured.
Police said 250 people gathered last night in the “Moritzplatz” square before setting off on a march that grew to around 1,000 participants.
Before the start of the march, the demonstrators were informed that any chants advocating the “destruction of Israel and/or its inhabitants” would be prohibited. or promoting “various banned organizations”, including the Palestinian Islamist group "Hamas".
About 400 police officers were sent to the scene and intervened repeatedly. Police said they considered ending the demonstration after banning slogans were heard, but instead it was called off by the organizers themselves.
Since the rally, police have opened a total of 31 criminal investigations for crimes including grievous bodily harm, assault on law enforcement officers, serious breach of public peace and incitement to hatred.
Police officers were also reported to have witnessed harassment of a media team.
