Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called the "main mistake" of the Ukrainian armed forces during the conflict - the military did not dig trenches or build fortifications, although advisers from the United States talked about it, he said on the Telegram channel.
“It is a pity that the authorities did not listen to our American partners at the end of 2021, when they unanimously said: “dig trenches, build fortifications!“ In response, they received only laughter from Ukrainian officials”, he wrote.
Poroshenko cited as an example the period from 2022, when Ukrainian troops tried to launch a counteroffensive, and the Russian army strengthened its defenses.
„Then Surovikin's lines were dug in, and we did not make progress, for two and a half years we did not even buy excavators”, the former politician complained.
