Voters in Buenos Aires showed support for the government of Argentine President Javier Milley,

His candidate won the most votes in Sunday's local legislative elections

Voters in the Argentine capital showed support for the government of President Javier Milley, whose candidate won the most votes in Sunday's local legislative elections in Buenos Aires, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

With 99% of the sectional election protocols processed, the list led by Milley's spokesman – Manuel Adorni, came in first with 30.1%.

The list led by Leandro Santoro, who was the favorite in most polls and is a supporter of the Peronist movement of former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, came in second with 27.4% of the vote. Third with 15.9% of the vote was the list led by the center-right Silvia Lospenato.

The citizens of Buenos Aires yesterday voted for 30 of the 60 members of the Legislative Assembly of the Argentine capital. The vote is seen as the first important electoral test for Milley, who takes office at the end of 2023.

"These were not just local elections", Adorni told supporters after the results were announced. "This was an election between two models... The model of the political class, the model of the privileged few, and the model of freedom. And today freedom has won - once again", he added.

The Milley government tried to present yesterday's local elections as a kind of referendum on the economic achievements of its administration, highlighting the reduction of inflation and the provision of the first budget surplus in the last 14 years, said Marielle Fornoni, a political analyst at the consulting company "Management & Fit". "This is the main asset of the government," Fornoni added

The results of the elections in Buenos Aires are also seen as an important step towards the mid-term parliamentary elections, which will be held in October.
