Putin's response won't be pretty - Trump unhappy with strikes on Russian military airfields, angry with Zelensky

The US may stop supporting Ukraine over the attacks, writes Atlantic

"Putin was attacked pretty hard deep inside Russia. And he told me, "we have no choice but to attack". The response probably won't be pretty," said US President Donald Trump at a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, commenting at the request of journalists on the content of the last conversation with Putin. "I don't like it. I said, "don't do it, you have to stop it," said the American leader. "But again: a lot of hate," added Trump, referring to the conflict in Ukraine.

Trump is unhappy with Ukraine's decision to strike Russian military airfields, and the White House is discussing the possibility of ending support for Kiev, it reports. The Atlantic.

According to his sources in the Washington administration, the American leader “has openly expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the strikes could lead to an escalation of the conflict“. According to the publication “the drone attack has reignited the president's dissatisfaction with Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and has sparked a new debate in the White House about whether the United States should abandon Ukraine“.

According to the publication, Trump calls Zelensky a “bad boy“ and a “hothead“ and believes that he provokes the start of World War III. According to one of the sources, the head of the White House believes that Zelensky should fully focus on negotiations with Russia in Istanbul.

According to the publication, Trump has not yet decided on the “next steps“ regarding the situation around Ukraine. Advisers have offered him a number of options, including tightening sanctions against Russia and “cutting US aid to Ukraine“. As specified in the publication, earlier this week the American leader told his advisers that he did not believe in the possibility of holding a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky in the near future.

Trump said that in a phone conversation on June 4 he urged the Russian president not to respond to Kiev's latest attacks.
